Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital recently opened a one-of-a-kind Young Women’s Health program to provide comprehensive care to adolescent females with locations in both Hollywood and Wellington.
“The Young Women’s Health program was thoughtfully designed to provide comprehensive reproductive health care for young women, by women, in a pediatric setting,” said Dr. Holly Neville, Chief, Pediatric General Surgery Program and Associate Program Director, Surgical Residency Program. “We embrace the system-wide approach to providing patient- and family-centered care and are especially focused on meeting the needs of young females in a new way.”
According to the physician team at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, the program was developed because there is an increasing need for the combination of medical and surgical services for young women in a comfortable setting.
Services offered as part of the Young Women’s Health program include adolescent breast and gynecological surgery, including breast and ovarian masses, ovarian torsions, and vaginal and reproductive anomalies. In addition, the comprehensive team that includes medical, surgical care, nursing and other disciplines provides development checks during puberty, gynecological exams, polycystic ovary syndrome, menstrual irregularities evaluations and eating disorder management.
The Young Women’s Health program is a women-led multidisciplinary team of both medical and surgical experts. Joining Dr. Neville are Dr. Tamar Levene, providing surgical care, Dr. Elba Iglesias, Medical Director of Adolescent Medicine and Vanessa Petit-Vaval, APRN providing medical care.
This program will not replace the care of the patient’s pediatrician, but offer an additional level of care for unique needs in the female adolescent population, including specialty exams and surgical procedures for tweens and teens.
“We welcome new patients to our practice and look forward to caring for them as they begin the next phase of their health journey into adulthood,” said Dr. Iglesias. “The combined experience our team brings to Young Women’s Health allows us to treat adolescents with sensitivity and a holistic approach- this is not one-size-fits-all medicine.”
