Joe DiMaggio Childrens Hospital Foundation Contributes 20 Million

It was anything but business as usual at the most recent meeting of the South Broward Hospital District’s Board of Commissioners.
The group, which oversees governance of Memorial Healthcare System, accepted a $20 million check from the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation. The dollars were the first major contribution of funds generated by the nonprofit’s “Catch the Love” fundraising campaign to underwrite a significant portion of the expected $170 million cost to expand Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
“The donors are energized because they recognize how important this is,” said Dr. Andrew Greenfield, the foundation’s board chair. “We continue to find more and more people in our community that see Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for what it is, a jewel in South Florida that takes excellent care of our children.”
Greenfield and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation Chief Development Officer Kevin Janser made the presentation and stressed that the eight-figure donation was the first of
several that would be forthcoming. The foundation had previously announced a $56 million goal for the Catch the Love campaign and that $35 million had already been committed through philanthropic giving.
Construction at the pediatric facility is ongoing, with the project expected to be completed late in 2022. The additional four floors will double the size of the current structure, adding 72 new patient rooms, two cardiac hybrid operating rooms, two surgical suites, intensive care and cardiac intensive care units, an intraoperative MRI, play zones, rehab, and family support areas.
