NICU Team Cares for Premature Twins Jaylen and Jordan in Moments that Count

January 07, 2025

Born at Memorial at 26 weeks, premature twins Jaylen and Jordan received needed care in the moments that count from the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital NICU.

Twin brothers Jaylen and Jordan spent several months in the Wasie Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Endangered by their low heart rates, they were delivered early at 26 weeks via an urgent cesarean section at Memorial Regional Hospital Family Birthplace.

“Our unit opens up into labor and delivery at Memorial,” said Richard Auerbach, MD, neonatal perinatal medicine. “So, we were there at the delivery stabilizing them in the room and then bringing them back to the neonatal intensive care unit.”

Born at about two pounds each, they both had immature lungs and were placed on ventilators until they could breathe on their own.

“Since then, they’ve skyrocketed,” said Jada, their mom. “Jordan is 11 pounds and Jaylen is nine.

“The staff here is great,” said Rashonda, their grandma. “Everyone is loving and caring and that's what matters most.”
