Pediatric Neurology: Why Choose Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital?

When you bring your child to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for the care of a neurological disorder, you’ll find:

  • Subspecialty level of care: When it comes to neurological conditions, there are significant differences between adults and children, and your child has very different needs from infancy through adolescence. Our board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric neurologists subspecialize in certain conditions. This specialization gives them the highest level of expertise in your child’s evolving needs.
  • Advanced technology: We use the latest tools to diagnose and treat neurological conditions. Sophisticated imaging technology helps us identify areas of the brain and spine that may be treatment targets. High-tech surgical tools allow us to precisely treat those areas while avoiding healthy tissue and preserving function.
  • Compassionate, family-centered approach: Having a child with a neurological condition can be stressful and overwhelming for the entire family. We provide compassion and support while giving you an objective, realistic understanding of your child’s condition and prognosis.
  • Advocacy for your child: Part of your child’s treatment is counseling you on how to advocate for your child in the real world. We create plans and coach you and your child so they can do their best in school and the community. We can help you access resources for tutoring, social skills training, behavioral interventions, condition-specific summer camps, support groups and more.
  • Comprehensive, team-based care: Children with neurological conditions often have complex care needs that require multiple specialists. Our neurologists work with oncologists, therapists, surgeons, social workers and other providers to ensure your child receives seamless, comprehensive care.
  • Welcoming environment: We strive to make your child and family as comfortable as possible during diagnosis and treatment. Our child life specialists explain everything we do before we do it. They even allow your child to touch and feel equipment so that it’s less scary. We also offer therapy dogs, low-sensory spaces and family areas to help the hospital experience feel less stressful.
